There is an extremely subtle and dangerous temptation to
confuse peace with the simple absence of war, like being tempted to confuse
health with the absence of disease, or freedom with not being in prison. The
terminology is sometimes misleading. For example, the expression "peaceful
coexistence" means the absence of war and not true peace.

I wish everyone that the countries of the world find
alternatives to senseless military conflicts and reckless spending on wars. It
is time to rethink security so that women, families and our children can live
in peace! I would like the entire world community to unite in the name of peace
and cooperation, to start addressing disarmament issues... We hope for
constructive, humane diplomacy that could plant the seeds of a new,
demilitarized architecture based on common security.
