Disinformation in your life “Inveterate swindlers“

Galina Safronova, Jõhvi Russian Basic school, Estonia

Phone scammers in Estonia

In Estonia, since the beginning of 2021, phone scammers have swindled a total of almost 3.2 million euros from gullible people.

Almost every day, Estonian social network Facebook groups appear warnings about phone scammers who pretend to be bank employees and ask to confirm various transactions, extorting account holders' passwords.

In 2021, I received more than 10 such calls. Both bank employees and the police were represented. As a rule, these scammers call from abroad and do not know the Estonian language, they act according to the scheme described on the Internet, which many are already familiar with from the media. Therefore, after questions in Estonian, they turn off the phone or hang up. Many begin to be rude, after exposing their questions.
