On April 23rd, 1920, the
Grand National Assembly of Turkey met for the first time and laid the
foundations of the Republic of Turkey. On April 23, 1929, in addition to
celebrating Turkey's independence, parliament declared April 23rd a national
holiday dedicated to children at the request of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder
of the Turkish Republic. Turkey was the first country in the world to celebrate
an official Children's Day with this holiday, which was gifted to children in
Turkey and in the world. Every year on April 23rd, children from dozens of

and have the chance to share their poems, songs, folk dances with each other.
